If you’re concerned about your cholesterol, you should be aware that brewing with an Espresso machine or drinking Espresso from your local coffee shop has high levels of Diterpenes, (Cafestol and Kahweol) which are potent cholesterol elevating compounds.
According to Baylor College of Medicine, Cafestol, a compound found in coffee, is the most potent cholesterol elevating compound in the human diet and elevates cholesterol by hijacking a receptor in an intestinal pathway critical to its regulation.
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine also conducted similar studies.
According to Dr. Michael J. Klag, the vice dean for clinical investigation at Johns Hopkins suggests that a cholesterol check may be in order for people who drink French Press, or Espresso.
In 2009 we were the first coffee company to conduct third party lab tests of our brew method vs. Espresso. Tests showed that Espresso had over 555% more Cafestol than our cold brew method.
